today's outfit: thrifted scarf and earrings, NY&Company shirt, Forever 21 shorts, Primark gladiator sandals
I've condensed these two days into one post because not too much was happening. The shop really doesn't start on their projects until the kids come. Next week the students will all audition for their part in Hairspray, and from there we will work like mad to get all of their measurements, sort through our existing pulled items, and start making more than 30 costumes from scratch. Although the busy work I'm doing now is boring, I know I'll be missing all of this down- time come next week. I'm also pretty nervous about making a whole costume at such a fast pace. At UNC, I've done my own projects for class that are constructed over the span of a few weeks. I'm looking into making something simple before next week on the sewing machines I brought from home to set up in my apartment so that I can get some practice and speed. I know I'm just an intern, but it'll be great to just work efficiently without having to ask too many questions, or worry about my speed.
The busy work has consisted of: hand- sewing colored labels onto the insides of garments to distinguish where they came from, taking chest, waist, and skirt- length measurements of all dresses, and reorganizing stock. We also went through existing patterns and matched up loose pieces. It was great to see all of the patterns they had in stock-- sort of like a Michael's or JoAnn's. Everyday I'm impressed with the size and organization of the costume shop.
I'll keep this post short, but hopefully I should have some pretty interesting things to talk about. At 9:30AM we're going thrifting for clothes to alter!
